Human Rights and Responsibilities
While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Luke 2: 6-7

As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.Galatians 3: 27-28

I believe that all of humanity has the right to basic things like education, health care, housing, food, clothing, the right to live with dignity. If we are Christian we believe that we are all one in Christ. The story of Jesus' birth could not illustrate the point better, that we must treat every human being that we come into contact with as if they were Christ himself. I often wonder how that Innkeeper must have felt once he realized that a king was born in his animal stable because he did not make room for him in his own home. We are responsible to make sure that our neighbour has what he or she needs to live in dignity and with the knowledge that they are loved. We must advocate for those who are "voiceless" in our society - in any way we can.

These activities outline a focus that I have had on my faith journey in recent months. If I find myself perpetually on a "faith journey" that will be ok. Because it will mean that I am constantly trying to find ways to make life better for others. I am always striving to bring dignity to a situation, I am forever attempting to put my faith into action, to respect others' rights and to praise God for the wonder of our lives.

A note about this PowerPoint:
I have made the simple change to add some basic statistics about poverty in Canda.

Whether or not these children can afford an education shouldn't matter. They have the right to expect an education. (Christianville, Haiti, 11/11)
